Star Athletes on Long-List of Celebrities Who Will Chip-In to Support 2008 Caddies 4 Cure
Fundraising Event

Ozzie Smith, Jerome Bettis and Channing Frye are among the celebrities who will donate time, talent and finances to help Northwest children and families

PORTLAND, Ore. – May 05, 2008 – Some of today’s biggest star athletes will descend on the Rose City June 19 – 20 in support of one of the Northwest’s premier charitable fundraising events, the fifth annual Caddies 4 Cure ‘Night to Chip In’ and Celebrity Golf Classic. MLB hall-of-famer Ozzie Smith, Super Bowl champion and former NFL running back Jerome Bettis, and Portland Trailblazers forward Channing Frye will join other national and local celebrities to donate their time, talents and finances toward this year’s event.

The two-day fundraiser, which includes a dinner party, auction and golf tournament, aims to raise money for two charities serving the needs of Northwest children and families, Legacy Emanuel Children’s Hospital and the Oregon Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Caddies 4 Cure co-founders Justin Marquart and Ryan DuChene have close personal connections to these charities, something they share in common with 2008 celebrity participant, Channing Frye, and thousands of fellow Oregonians.

“Having a family member with MS, I know firsthand the challenges people face living with this disease,” said Frye. “That’s why I’m thrilled to chip-in to help Caddies 4 Cure improve the lives of people with MS right here in Portland, and ultimately find a cure for the disease.”

The 2008 Caddies for Cure Celebrity Golf Classic kicks off Thursday, June 19th, with ‘A Night To Chip In’ at the Tiger Woods Center on Nike’s Beaverton campus. It is followed by a scramble format tournament, with foursomes paired with a celebrity player, at the Royal Oaks Country Club in Vancouver, Washington, on Friday.

“We continue to be amazed each and every year by the number and caliber of celebrities who come out to support our organization and cause,” said Caddies 4 Cure co-founder, Ryan DuChene. “Our goal has always been to make an impact with the charities we serve and it’s because of the contributions of our athletes, and the community’s generosity, that we’ve been able to raise more than $250,000 for these worthy causes.”

This year’s line-up features other new and exciting names, like NBA hall-of-famer Moses Malone, former NFL quarterback Kordell Stewart, and Southern Methodist University Head Coach June Jones.

About Caddies 4 Cure

Caddies 4 Cure was established in 2002 by Justin Marquart and Ryan DuChene. Friends for more than 20 years, Justin and Ryan founded Caddies 4 Cure as a way to raise money for two charities close to their hearts, the Oregon Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and Legacy Emanuel Children’s Hospital. In 2001, Ryan’s wife, Marci, was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. Ryan and Marci have become very involved with the Oregon Chapter, National MS Society, and hope that their charitable efforts will one day lead to a cure. The Ella Marie Marquart Fund benefits the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Emanuel Children’s Hospital. The fund is in honor of Justin and Lisa Marquart’s daughter, who passed away at one month of age from a congenital heart defect.
